I've lived in LaGrange on the regular for pretty much almost 8 years. Well in the same apartment atleast. And I frequent Conveinent daily. Sometimes on a multiple level. And I have never ever, ever! Seen anyone use this pay phone. I wish he woulda been having an argument.
But instead I'm going to make up what I think the conversation was about.

He's kinda got a bummed look on his face. I think he was talking to his wife, whom witch either left him for another man. Or caught him with his mistress and/or hooker from Bugsy's. Then turned his cellphone from 1999 off. Forcing him to call n pleade for her to take her back.
